This topic is written for V12 Selector users. GSelector is different from what you may have been used to - it's a completely new take on scheduling for Radio, the web and more. In many areas there are no direct equivalents between the two programs. GSelector has new fields and, especially, functions you won't have seen before. So layout, navigation and commands may seem strange at first. Some V12 Selector fields have been superseded; the familiar V12 function keys have been replaced by clickable buttons.
Many GSelector screens (and the fields in them) are new or rethought. Not every field has a direct equivalent. If you have a very developed and detailed database, using a lot of fields to carry information, you many need to do some configuration work in your V12 database before converting up from V12 to GSelector. For notes on importing your V12 Selector database into GSelector, see the Importing Data topic.
While we start by looking at Basic Principles, and then Navigation and common commands, this topic is generally organized by V12 Selector and Linker Main menu headings. Scroll down or follow the Links to each section. You can then follow Links to more detailed topics if you wish.
Schedulers and Editor
Both V12 Selector and GSelector ask you to cover some basic ground when setting up your station (or stations) for the first time. We ask you to organize your Songs into sections - Categories in V12 Selector, Category Groups in GSelector - and to specify how those sections of your library will be used, hour by hour, when you build your Clocks. We also ask you to add some descriptive coding to each Song or Link, and in V12 Selector, to apply some rules - both unbreakable, must-obey rules, and also rules you would like observed if at all possible - to the Songs or codes you have applied. That's the basic editorial work you need to do to start setting up your station, and we can't do it for you. How detailed you want or need to get from this initial stage is up to you. But we'll start from there.
In the scheduling process, V12 Selector works through your clock positions, category by category, and picks the first Song from the top of each category list which does not break any of the rules you have set up. When it gets to the next clock position, it does the same thing. Scheduled items drop to the bottom of their respective category lists, and work back to the top as further items are scheduled. V12 Selector looks at all the clock positions for your most important category, then moves on to the second category, and so on. Each item is looked individually, with only those rules that you have applied - to protect against, say, the same Artist, or to separate Songs with the same descriptive coding - coming in to play.
GSelector starts with a different approach. As you build your library and your clocks, GSelector analyzes the Natural Demand for your library - by Song (or Link), Artist, Title, Album, Category, and also by any of the descriptive codes you have applied. This information is always instantly available in the Goals section Categories and Balance screens. GSelector automatically separates Songs and Links, working with key Goals that are always in force. But it goes much further than that. Everything that goes to make up the natural demand is interdependent on every other element in your library. Adjusting demand in one area will affect, to a greater or lesser extent, every other area - automatically. So while GSelector also works through your clock positions, category by category, it does this while keeping an internal score: how well does this item in this clock position, meet the natural demand? This means that GSelector will not just pick a Song or Link that does not break any important rules: it picks the best Song or Link for that clock position. And as it goes, it constantly re-tests each position as the schedule is completed, adjusting if necessary.
GSelector offers tab navigation to access each section of the program: see the notes on the Navigation bar in the Navigating in GSelector topic. Additionally, you can jump back and forward between recently visited topics using the Navigation Arrows. As with V12 Selector, you can jump to Song and Link windows by selecting and double-clicking in the Editor, as well as a number of new GSelector screens. GSelector has User Defined Navigation allowing the user to select the Selector V12 Navigation Template.

GSelector organizes Songs in one Library database, shared between stations . Each Song can be activate or Inactive in any station. Songs share common ID, Title, Artist, Album and Runtime information across stations, while local station-specific coding can be applied as needed in a range of fields. You don't have to leave the Song window to define attributes like Sound Code. Energy, Themes and Role.
