Navigation Templates

This Navigation Templates window can be used to activate, add, delete, save, discard changes, export, import templates to use for the User Definable Navigation window. The Default and Selector V12 Menu templates are provided with GSelector. These system templates can be edited as well as reverted back to their original state.

To access the Navigation Templates window click Templates menu option in the Tools | Navigation menu.

Toolbar buttons may vary in color based on the Appearance Style selected.

Templates - The Templates drop-down is used to select a template to edit or activate as the User Definable Navigation menu. The template with an asterisks (*) next to it is the currently active template. The Selector V12 Menu [System] is the default active template when GSelector is first installed.
Activate - Use the Activate button to activate the selected template as the User Definable Navigation menu.
Add - The Add button is used to create a new template. The Template Name window will open allowing the user to give the template a Name. This will be the name that appears in the Templates drop-down list.
Delete - The Delete button will delete the currently selected template if it is not currently active. To delete the currently active template, select a new template and activate it, then select the template to delete and click the Delete button. System Templates cannot be deleted.
Revert to System Copy - The Revert to System Copy button will revert any changes to the selected system Template to its original state.
Edit Name - The Edit Name button will open the Template Name window so the name of the selected template can be changed. System Template Names cannot be edited.
Save - The Save button will Save any changes made to the selected Template.
Save As - The Save As button allows the user to save the currently selected Template to a new Template. The Template Name window will open allowing the user to enter a new name. The new copy of the template is automatically saved and will show as the selected template in the Templates drop-down. This allows the user to start with a pre-configured template.
Discard Changes - The Discard Changes button will reload the selected Template to its last saved state discarding any unsaved changes.
Copy Templates - The Copy Templates button will open the Copy Templates window allowing the user to copy their templates to another user.
Import - The Import button will open a windows selection window allowing the user to select a Template file from the local computer or network to import into GSelector.
Export - The Export button will Export the selected Template so it can be shared and Imported into another GSelector system.

 

Menu Items

The left pane of the Navigation Templates window displays the current menu items. The Menu Items are listed in an expanded tree format. From this pane the user can Add Menu Node or Delete Menu Node items. When selecting the Add Menu Node button a New Menu Item will be placed below the currently selected item. If there are additional items already in place below the currently selected item then the New Menu Item will be placed at the bottom of that list of items.

 

Menu Item Actions

The Menu Item Action pane is where the user defines the Action that should be taken when the menu item is clicked or when the user presses the defined keyboard Shortcut while in the F12 Menu.

Name - Use the Name field to give the Menu button in the User Definable Navigation window a short name to identify the buttons function.

Action - Use the Action drop-down menu to select a GSelector Action to perform when the menu button is pressed or the Keyboard Shortcut is used. The Actions follow the tab progression in the main GSelector application.

Description - Use the Description field to describe what happens when the button is executed. This description is shown at the bottom of the User Definable Navigation window when the Menu option is selected. Use the up/down arrow keys to scroll through the menu options and view the description.

Shortcut - The shortcut field is used to add a keyboard key combination to the Action so the keyboard can be used to accomplish the action within the F12 menu. Use the ellipse button to the right of the Shortcut field to open the Shortcut Editor window. Press the keyboard keys to use while in this window to record the keyboard shortcut. Keyboard shortcuts can only be used once per template.

Add a New Template

  1. Select the Templates... menu option from the Navigation option in the Tools menu of the main GSelector menu.
  2. Click the Add button
  3. Type in a Name for the Template. This is the name that will be seen in the Templates drop-down of the Toolbar.
  4. Click OK to close the Template Name window and open the new template.
  5. Click the Add button to the right of Home in the left panel of the Navigation Templates window.
  6. Enter a Name for the New Menu Item
  7. Use the drop-down in the Action field to select the section of GSelector to use for this menu item.
  8. Enter a Description.
  9. If this is a main menu item that will have sub-menu items click the Add Menu Node button to the right of the newly named field in the left panel. The Shortcut and Action are ignored for the main menu item when additional sub-menu items are created.
  10. Enter a Name for the New Menu Item
  11. Use the drop-down in the Action field to select the section of GSelector to use for this menu item.
  12. Enter a Description.
  13. For single menu items or sub-menu items click the button to the right of the Shortcut field to open the Shortcut Editor window.
  14. Press the keyboard keys to use for the Shortcut, they are automatically entered in the field when pressed.
  15. Click OK
  16. Repeat for each main menu item.
  17. Repeat from each main menu item created, to create submenu items.
  18. Click Save when finished.

 

Removing a Menu Item from a Template

When removing Menu items be aware if a Main Menu item is removed all sub-menu items will also be removed. However, if a string of menu items is mistakenly removed clicking the Discard Changes button will undo all unsaved changes.

  1. Select the Templates... menu option from the Navigation option in the Tools menu of the main GSelector menu.
  2. Select the Template to edit from the Templates drop-down.
  3. Select the Menu Item to remove
  4. Click the Delete Menu Node button
  5. Click Save  when finished.

 

Activate a Template

  1. Select the Templates... menu option from the Navigation option in the Tools menu of the main GSelector menu.
  2. Select the Template to activate from the Templates drop-down.
  3. Click the Activate button in the toolbar.

 

Delete a Template

An active template cannot be deleted. If the Template to be deleted is active first Activate a different Template.

  1. Select the Templates... menu option from the Navigation option in the Tools menu of the main GSelector menu.
  2. Select the Template to delete from the Templates drop-down.
  3. Click the Delete button in the toolbar.

 

Edit a Template Name

  1. Select the Templates... menu option from the Navigation option in the Tools menu of the main GSelector menu.
  2. Select the Template to edit from the Templates drop-down.
  3. Click the Edit Name button in the toolbar.

  2. Click OK

 

Copy Templates to Other GSelector Users

  1. Select the Templates... menu option from the Navigation option in the Tools menu of the main GSelector menu.
  2. Click the Copy Templates button in the toolbar.

  1. Select the users to copy the templates to or use the Select/Unselect All option to select all the users in the list.

  1. Click OK
  2. Login as one of the selected users to view the copied templates.

 

Import a Navigation Template file

  1. Select the Templates... menu option from the Navigation option in the Tools menu of the main GSelector menu.
  2. Click the Import button in the toolbar.
  3. Browse to the file and click Open. The template is imported and shown as the selected template.

 

Export a Navigation Template to a file

  1. Select the Templates... menu option from the Navigation option in the Tools menu of the main GSelector menu.
  2. Click the Export button in the toolbar.
  3. Browse to the location to save it and click OK. The file is exported with the Template name with a .udntemplate file extension.
