Browse Formats: Format design

This window is used to design formats to apply in Library (Browse and Category Changer), Editor (Log or Consideration), Analysis and Kick Override Order windows. These are assigned in the Browse Formats Assignment window. You can create as many formats as required; in each format, fields can be selected and specified in the order you choose. You can also assign a Browse sort order and sort directions to any field. Any field can be renamed just for that format, and field widths can be set in a mock-up pane. A format, once designed, can be used in any Station.

Song/Link tabs

The Song and Link tabs are setup the same. The Song tab is used to setup custom Browse format for All Song related fields. These Song Browse Formats can then be assigned as Editor or Song Formats. The Link tab is used to setup custom browse formats for All Link related fields. These Formats can then be assigned to Link Formats.

Toolbar

From this toolbar, you can Add a New Format, Save or Cancel changes to a Format, Save an Existing or Changed Format as a new Format , and Delete a format.

Select Format field

All existing formats are displayed in this pane. Click the drop-down button to access the list of existing formats. Note that all Formats are available on all Stations.

Available Fields list

All Fields not used in the format are listed in alphabetical order in this pane. The Song tab Fields list holds fields used in the Main Song window, the Song Additional tab, and History fields (Date Added, Date Activated, Entered Category, Last Edited and Total Plays) along with the Airtime field. From here, select a field and click the Add button to place the field in the Selected list. Optionally, drag and drop the selected field into the Selected list. The Link tab Fields List holds fields used in the Main Link window, the Link Additional tab, and History fields (Date Added, Date Activated, Entered Category, Last Edited and Total Plays). All Song and Link fields are available for use in any format, including the User Defined and Custom User Defined fields in the Additional Information pane.

NOTE: Some fields for each format are permanent. They cannot be removed from the format, and are not displayed in the Available Fields windows. They are always included in the final format, although you do not have to display them if the other fields take up enough space to move them out of view. In the Editor, for example, the Score and Lowest Score fields and the Status fields are always included in the format. However the size and position of these columns can be save to the Browse Format in the Editor.

Add and Remove field buttons

These buttons are used to move Fields to and from the available Fields and Selected Fields panes. The Right-pointing Add button at top places a highlighted Field in the Selected Fields List. The Left-pointing Remove button returns a selected field back to the Fields List. Optionally, fields can be added or removed by dragging and dropping the selected field with the mouse.

Selected Fields list

All fields selected for the current format are displayed in this pane. Their order can be adjusted by using the Field Sequencing buttons or by dragging and dropping the field to a new order location.

Find (CTRL+F)

Pressing the CTRL+F will open the Find option allowing the user to do a "Smart Filter" find.  The Finder will search for results as they are typed. The Find option is available in the Selected Fields List of this window, select the pane and press CTRL+F to open the Find option.

CTRL+F - Invokes the Find Panel.

ESC - Clears the search box. If the search box is empty, pressing ESC closes the Find Panel.

DOWN ARROW - Moves focus from the Find Panel to the grid's data area.

Alias

In any Format, you can optionally display a different Name for the field, by typing the different Name into the Alias field. The Alias used is specific to that Format, although is nothing to prevent the same Alias being used in multiple formats.

Sort Order and Sort direction

The Sort field allows you to both specify a sort order, and a direction for the sort, which is applied to the Browse from any field or fields in the Browse format. This allows you, for example, to call for a format which sorts by Category first, and then by Artist and Title, with each sorted in direction you specify. Or you could sort by Duration and then by Artist and Title. Sort order is determined by the order you set up in the Selected Fields pane, and sort direction is applied to each field. If you don't want to sort on any field, you can select this option as well.

  1. First order the fields to set the sort order using the field sequencing buttons.
  2. Select each field and click the drop down arrow in the Sort column for that field to set sort direction.
  3. Select None for no Sort (0rder or direction), or the ASCending or DESCending options to apply a sort order.
  4. Save and name the browse format.
  5. In the browse window, the format will be applied with the sorts requested in the selected fields.

TIP: You can specify sort direction for any field in a browse - see the sorting notes in the Working with Browses topic - by clicking on the header for that field.

# of Chars

The # of Chars is the number of characters that will show for the value in the field selected. For example, if the # of Chars was set to 2 and the selected field was Sound Code then an event with the Sound Code of Rock would only show Ro in the resulting field of the Browse window.

Delimiter

The Delimiter is the character between two or more values. If a song had two Sound Codes such as, Rock and Fast and the Delimiter was + then the resulting field would show Rock+Fast or Ro+Fa if the # of Chars was set to 2.

Mandatory

The Mandatory column works with the Inline Editing feature to make the field a required field when a user is editing a song/link in the browse window. In this case, the user can not delete the contents of a mandatory field when inline editing. Also, the contents of a mandatory browse format field can not be deleted in the Multi Song/Link Changer.

Field Sequencing buttons

Click these buttons to order fields in the Selected Fields pane. This determines the sort order and the field sequence in the browse. Click to select a field, and then move that field up and down in the field sequence. Fields are displayed from top to bottom, and read from left right in the Preview Pane and in the Log or Consideration Pane formats. Optionally, use the Alt+Up and Alt+Down on the keyboard or drag and drop the field to re-order the selected field.

Set Column Widths

To save a Column width for the Browse Format go to the desired window such as the Library Browse window, adjust the column widths, then use the Format Selection drop-down to save the changes to the column widths.
