The toolbar is common to all Balance windows. From it you can Save or Cancel Changes to your settings, Copy settings from one Daypart to another, view an analysis for demand across multiple Dayparts, view only items where Adjustments have been made to demand, clear adjustments for this window, access the Rotation Rules window, or assign an Appearance. Toolbar buttons may vary in color based on the Appearance Style selected.
If you have changed any settings in this window, the Save changes button is activated. Click to save changes.
Click the Cancel button to re-read the original settings and return to the window to its last saved state.
Click to copy your settings to other dayparts. This accesses the Copy Daypart dialog box. See the Copy Daypart Dialog Box notes for full details. The Copy Daypart Dialog box is also accessed from the Categories and Dayparts Definition windows.
NOTE: When copying to a Daypart from the Song or Link Categories windows or any Balance window - Artist, Attribute, Participant or Song - the default setting in the Copy Daypart dialog box will be to copy the setting for that Goals Categories or Balance window. You can select other settings to copy as well. Limit settings do not get copied to other dayparts.
Click the Cross Daypart Analysis button in this window to open the Cross Daypart Analysis view, which displays turnover figures for two or more dayparts in combination. In this view, you may not make any changes to settings. These are made by Daypart in the main window. For more details, see the Cross-Daypart Analysis topic.
In Goals Balance windows, once a Cross Daypart Analysis view is accessed, the Balance toolbar button shown here, to the left of the Cross Daypart Analysis button, is activated. Click to return to the default single Daypart mode.
In the Goals Categories window, once a Cross Daypart Analysis view is accessed, the counterpart Categories toolbar button, shown here, also to the left of the Cross Daypart Analysis button in the toolbar, is activated. Click to return to the default single Daypart mode in Goals categories.
This button is used in all Goals Balance windows. Click this button to filter out all items where no changes have been made to the shift field, and only display items where an Adjustment is in force. Note that as a change in the limit field places a value in the shift field, this change is shown when you click the Adjustments button.
NOTE: Clicking this button will not show changes made in the optional Minimum Separation or Maximum Per Hour fields.
The Clear Adjustments button will open the Clear Adjustments dialog box. The Clear Adjustments dialog provides controls that enable the user to remove song or link adjustments across one or more dayparts.
This button will apply the Limits set in the Limits field. Limits are applied manually via this button for each of the Goals | Balance pages, causing demands to be recalculated.
This button accesses the Rotation Rules window (see notes here). The Rotation Rule window allows you to set Rotation Rules that can be applied to any Artist, Attribute, Participant or Song in the relevant Balance window. The Rules you enable in Priorities Definition, and the Settings for each rule, are applied, for each Category where you define a value.
TIP: When you enable the Minimum Separation rule, you can apply a specific Minimum Separation value for any Song, Artist, Attribute or Participant directly in the relevant Balance window. Values you enter for specific elements in the Balance windows will override any value you set in the Rotation Rules window for Minimum Separation.
This toolbar button allows you to select any balance window item (Artist, Attribute, Song Title or Participant) and assign a predefined Appearance. Select the item, and click the button to open a drop-down menu to select from existing Appearances. See the notes on Appearances definition and Using Color. This button is only visible if the user has rights to access the Appearances tab in the Global Settings window.
You can also assign Appearances working in the browse.
NOTE: The right-click Appearances are only visible if the user has rights to access the Appearances tab in the Global Settings window.
Pressing the CTRL+F will open the Find option allowing the user to do a "Smart Filter" find. The Finder will search for results as they are typed. To open the Find option, click the pane to search and press the CTRL+F keys on the keyboard. The Find option is available in all the Goals Balance windows.
CTRL+F - Invokes the Find Panel.
ESC - Clears the search box. If the search box is empty, pressing ESC closes the Find Panel.
DOWN ARROW - Moves focus from the Find Panel to the grid's data area.
Click the drop down arrow in the Daypart field in any Song or Link Goals Balance window to select a Daypart. The Goals Balance display updates to reflect the demand generated by the settings for the selected Daypart. This applies to s. See the Dayparts Assignment window for details on creating and assigning Dayparts.
See the notes on selecting a Daypart in this topic.
Where two or more Clock Assignment Grids have been defined, this panel is displayed in all Song and Link Goals Balance windows. Click the drop down arrow to select a different Clock Assignment grid. The display instantly updates to reflect the demand generated by the Clocks in the selected Grid. For details on Clock Assignment Grids, see the Clock Assignment window topic.
Shift Column and Demand Shift Buttons
This check mark in the Play column (at the left of all Goals Balance and Categories in the default Browse format) shows that this Category, Artist, Participant, Attribute or Song is active for the selected daypart. Uncheck the box to block the Category, Artist, Participant, Attribute or Song play in the selected Daypart. When you uncheck a Category, Artist, Participant, Attribute or Song, it will drop to the bottom of the list in the Balance pane, if the Balance pane is sorted by demand. You can, however, sort by clicking the Play header as well.
TIP: To rapidly locate an item that you have unchecked, click the Adjustments button in the toolbar. Or click the Play header re-sort the list by Play status, or by the Demand or Demand Percentage column.
This column displays the Name of the Category, Artist, Song, Attribute or Participant. You cannot edit this field.
These columns display the number of Active songs (songs that are not banned, implicitly or explicitly ) for each Artist, Attribute or participant, and the Total field shows all Songs with this Artist, Attribute or Participant. You cannot edit this field.
NOTE: Count and Totals fields are not used in the Songs Balance window.
Click the More Information button in the Totals column in any Balance window to access a Summary window detailing the Category distribution for the selected Attribute, Artist, or Participant. See the Summary window topic for more details.
This column displays the Frequency for each Category, Artist, Song, Attribute or participant in the selected field. You cannot edit this field. This figure reflects changes made using the Demand shift buttons.
This column displays the d, in percentage terms, for each Category, Artist Song, Attribute or participant in this daypart. You cannot edit this field. This figure reflects changes made using the Demand shift buttons.
In the Categories window, this column toggles between Demand Percentage and Frequency by clicking the more information button.
This column displays the turnover time, in hours and minutes, for each Category, Artist Song, Attribute or participant in this daypart. You cannot edit this field. This figure reflects changes made using the Demand shift buttons.
The Shift field allows you to shift demand for any item in a Balance window. You can also fix a limit on plays for any item: see the Limit field notes. When you first access this column in any window, the figure displayed is 0. This means that demand has not been modified. You can get an instant snapshot of all Shifts and Bans in the Goals Balance and Song Adjustments windows. You can also instantly clear all shifts for this window using the clear adjustments toolbar button. Adjustments apply only to Shifts and Bans. Adjustments to the maximum per hour, minimum separation and limit balance settings are not shown in the Adjustments tab.
Click the up or down arrows to shift the demand. As you do, the value in this column increases or takes a negative value, to indicate the boost or cut you are giving to this item. At the same time, the values in the Frequency , Demand Percentage and Turnover columns will change for the selected Category, Artist Song, Attribute or participant, and for all the Category, Artist Song, Attribute or participant this change will affect.
NOTE: When you slot a Category Group in the Category Group Options window, you disable any Shifts or Bans made to Attributes, Participants, Songs, Titles or Categories in this Category Group. A slotted Category Group ignores all balance settings and schedules in strict sequence. This sequence can be edited and viewed in the Kick Override Order window.
A dramatic change to one item in a large list may not always have a perceptible impact on overall demand. If you have long turnovers, you can experiment with the effect of significant but focused changes in demand within a goal. The smaller the overall number of items of which you are changing an item, the greater the impact for the changed items, but the less overall impact there will be on the other items. However, if you need to make a dramatic change, it can often be more practical to review the overall balance of songs in your Categories and Groups.
NOTE: If the Limit field for any item is activated, the Shift field is disabled. The shift required to meet the target set in the Limit field is displayed in red in the shift Column, and the boost/cut buttons are grayed out. To reactivate Manual shifts, delete the value set in the limit field.
This field displays the number of plays per hour for the Artist, Attribute, Participant, Song or Link. The field cannot be directly edited, but it updates according to changes made in the Shift column.
These fields can all be enabled in the Station - Features window
This field allows you to specify a maximum number of plays per hour in any Daypart for any Song, Attribute, Participant, Album or Link. This field can be enabled or suppressed for all Balance windows by going to the Setup Features window and selecting or deselecting the Maximum Per Hour checkbox. If you enter values for one or more Song or Link Balance windows, and you then deselect the box for this setting in the Setup Station Features window, you will be prompted to confirm that you are deleting those settings. Adjustments to this setting are not shown in the Adjustments tab.
The Limit Plays per Hour field is displayed by default, but can be suppressed for all Song and Link Balance windows by going to the Setup Station Features window and unchecking the Demand Limit checkbox. In this field, you can enter a value to limit the number of plays per hour to a value smaller than the Plays per hour value, in any Daypart, for the selected Artist, Song, Attribute or Participant or Link. If you enter values for one or more Song or Link Balance windows, and you then uncheck the box for this setting in the Station - Features window, you will be prompted to confirm that you are deleting those settings. If not displayed, activate the Limit Field by checking the Demand Limit box in the Station - Features window. Adjustments to this setting are not shown in the Adjustments tab. To apply a limit, follow these steps.
Note: If limits are applied to a particular attribute (eg. Artist, Content, Song, Musician) if dayparts are grouped then Shifts/Bans will no longer propagate to the grouped dayparts for that particular attribute. ie. Limit and Shifts are now mutually exclusive in grouped dayparts.
This bar, in any Goal or Categories window, reflects overall Demand for all items in the window, in a Bar Graph display. This field reflects changes made using the Demand Shift buttons.

Assigning Appearances in Balance Windows
The settings you make in Goal windows are daypart-specific. When you open the window, GSelector sets up to the first Daypart in the Daypart Definition window list (see notes here). To view and edit demand for any other Daypart, select it from the Dayparts field. You can also define very specific and targeted settings when using Artist Blocks, as GSelector applies a dedicated <Twofer> Daypart when scheduling Artist Blocks.
TIP: The Copy function provides a quick way to set Goals for all dayparts - simply copy to a new Daypart and adjust your goals for the new time.
In the Goals Balance Artist window, you can select the <Twofer> Daypart in the Daypart selection box . When you select the <Twofer> Daypart in this box, a further selection box opens, letting you pick any Artist Block. The window will then display only those Artists who meet the Artist Block requirement.
You can also apply specific balance requirements in any Balance Pane, by selecting the <Twofer> Daypart in that Pane, and adjusting the Balance or Banning play by any Attribute, Participant, or Song. This is a very precise scheduling tool: <Twofer> Daypart settings are applied just at the point of scheduling an Artist Block. This, for example, would allow users to block songs from being scheduled by a specific Artist in Artist Blocks where an unwanted Vocalist participant is featured.
This works the same way when setting relative demand in categories, or adjusting the Balance in the Balance Artist, Attributes, Participants or Song demand windows, or any other area in GSelector. For each Category, Artist, Participant, Attribute and Song, you can shift relative demand up or down by clicking the Demand Shift buttons.
Click any column header in any Balance or Categories window to sort by the contents of the column, in ascending or descending order. When you re-sort by any field, the currently selected record is displayed in the re-sorted view. This makes it easier to follow a selected Artist, Participant, Attribute, Song, etc.
If you are using the Shift Demand buttons to modify demand, the item whose demand you shift will move to reflect its new demand figures in the default Browse view. This can make it complicated to ascertain relative demand. To get a clearer picture of how demand shifts work in relation to other items, sort by Title or Artist; that way, the display does not instantly adjust.
The Minimum Separation field in Balance windows
Implementing Minimum Separation
GSelector offers effective separation for any Song, Link, Attribute or Participant, driven by the natural demand in your library. But where you need to control separation of individual Songs, Links, Artists, attributes or participants, this field can be brought into use. Setting a time value in the Minimum Separation Days and Minutes and Seconds fields will enforce a separation for the set time for that Song, Artists, Participant, Attribute or Link. This would allow a user to, for example, specify a very precise Minimum Separation value for a particular Artist. Where a Minimum Separation time value is defined as over 50% of the natural turnover value in any balance screen, the value is displayed in RED. Adjustments to this setting are not shown in the Adjustments tab.
NOTE: If you enter values for Minimum Separation in Song or Link Balance windows, and you then remove the Minimum Separation Rule from the assign Priority List the values defined in this column will be ignored. See the following section on Implementing Minimum Separation.
When implemented, Minimum Separation is also displayed as a filter option in the Hotspots filter pane, and Minimum Separation values assigned to any Attribute, Participant, Artist or Song are displayed in the Adjustments Daypart tab window. Settings that you make in the Balance windows will override global Category-based Minimum Separation settings made in the Rotation Rules window.
Minimum Separation should be handled with care. If you apply a very different Minimum Separation value from the natural demand to an Artist in high rotation, you will notice the difference. However, if you apply a very specific Minimum Separation value to an individual Sound Code in the Balance Attributes window, the overall difference may not be so noticeable, although there will be a clear difference from the Sound Code Spread goal set in the Goals Priorities window, which works on Natural Demand. Where there are difficult scheduling situations, you can set an absolute minimum for one or more categories. In general, it's best to go for as good a natural demand as you can get, and work with that. Then, only use minimum separation sparingly if at all, and apply it to those very specific areas of your scheduling which could benefit from this very specific kind of adjustment.
When Minimum Separation is used, by default GSelector will calculate the Minimum Separation of an asset from the start of the asset to the start of the next asset by the same Artist, Attribute or Participant. When the Calculate Minimum Separation from Asset End option in the Miscellaneous tab of the Setup | Station | Features window is enabled, GSelector will calculate the Minimum Separation of an asset from the end of the asset to the start of the next asset by the same Artist, Attribute or Participant.
You can also apply Category-wide Default Minimum Separation values for Songs, Artists, Participants or Attributes. See the Rotation Rules window topic for details. Values set in Balance windows override Category-wide Default Minimum Separation values.
Occasionally there is a need to clear the adjustments made in the Balance windows to get back to the baseline.
